Reviews:

Zena Beth McGlashan brings Buttes history to life with this well-researched fascinating
account of its cemeteries and their inhabitants.
Buried in Butte is a
must read for everyone interested in the history of the American West.
   Annette Stott, University of Denver
   Author,
Pioneer Cemeteries: Sculpture Gardens of the Old West

Dying in Butte, it turns out, is just as fascinating as living there. Zena Beth McGlashan’s new
book offers an intriguing portrait of death in Butte in all its dimensions—from the departed to
coroners, undertakers and cemeteries.  She writes with authority about the deaths and
funerals of the city’s big shots as well as its working-class residents of different
nationalities.  Through death, she celebrates life in Butte.
Charles Johnson, chief, Lee Newspapers State Bureau

Buried in Butte is the first comprehensive survey of ignored aspects of Butte’s past—death,
dying, and the development of the funeral industry and cemeteries from the 1860s to the
present. In an entertaining fashion, McGlashan also examines the lives of selected individuals
and their impact on the community. Her extensive research and unique perspective are
wonderful contributions to Butte’s history.
